Author Biographies

The following authors, presented in alphabetical order, contributed to the e-Book.

Lauren Clark, RN, PhD, is a professor and chair of the Division of Health Systems and Community-Based Care at the University of Utah College of Nursing in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.  She taught the course for which this e-book was prepared, Research with Diverse Populations, and the graduate students enrolled in the course were invited to author chapters.

Rebecca Doughty, RN, MN, is aPhD student at Washington State University College of Nursing and the director of the Inland Northwest Transitional Respite Program, Spokane, Washington, USA. Research interests include transitional care, patient engagement, and patient activation in the homeless population.

Roula Ghadban, RN, MSN, is a PhD student at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, Virginia, USA. Interests in community and public health, cancer, smoking cessation and underserved populations.

Hilda Haynes-Lewis, MS, ANP-BC, AOCNP is a nurse practitioner in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, New York. In addition, she is pursuing a PhD at the University of Utah, College of Nursing, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Research interest area is the supportive care needs of older African Americans with advanced cancer who live in an urban area.

Sarah Llanque, RN, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the College of Nursing at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Research interests include Native American elder health, Alzheimer’s caregiving, community-based participatory research methods, mixed methodology, gerontological nursing, and critical pedagogy.

Esther Narkie Okang, MS, is a student in the Department of Health Promotion and Education, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Interests include nutrition, eating disorders, body image, and underserved populations.  She completed a bachelor’s degree in Finance with minor in International Development at Brigham Young University, Provo, UT, USA. She is currently Director of Outreach (SPEAK) at the University of Utah, and was recently elected Director of Finance for the Associated Students of the University of Utah, 2014-15.

Alison Fisher Pittman, RN, MSN, CPN is an assistant professor of Nursing specializing in pediatrics at Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan/College Station, Texas, USA.  She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Brittney Tacy is a PhD student in the Department of Health Promotion and Education at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Her interests are in nutrition, nutrition policies, obesity prevention, and adults with intellectual disabilities. She is the elected Research Director for SPEAK.

 John Rodriguez, RN, OCN, BMTCN, MA, MS, currently works at the Huntsman Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant unit, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.  He completed his Master of Science with a major in nursing and a Certificate in Informatics in May 2015.  His final project was a collaborative teaching experience shepherding the e-book to completion with Professor Clark and the graduate students.
